I have jujitsu 6:00 to 7:30 a day 3 days a week. it doesn't sound bad but time flies by so fast after school. I have a bunch of school work that usually takes up the whole day, i sleep around midnight then i have to wake up at 5 because i have an early class in the morning. because of that i get exhausted after school so i take an hour nap and drink some red bull before i go and train. after class since i didn't start on my homework i have to work more and sleep later then usual. i love going to jujitsu and i get really bum whenever i miss it. there's a 15 year old and 17 year old boy in my class. they attend everyday. i don't know how they do it. is there anything i can do to fit my school work and jujitsu in the day so i can have a bit more sleep? have do you deal with your school work along with you training?
i don't know if this is the right category to put it in, but this one seems the best.
How do you fit your school work with martial art classes?
Welcome to life, unfortunately :-(
It can be very difficult to balance things, but you must try to do so in order to provide quality attention to the things that are most important to you.
While I completely understand your devotion to training, and your disappointment when you are not able to train, school work and study and sleep at your age and time of life should be the priority. Your efforts in school will significanly affect the rest of your life, and this is something that should take priority over all else (within reason, of course.)
As others have suggested, try making up a chart and look at what MUST be done and when it MUST be done, prioritizing school and study time, eating properly and regularly, and sleeping properly and regularly. Once these are on the chart, decide for youself what makes sense for the remaining time. It may require a difficult decision, such as reducing your martial arts training to two days a week or giving up some television time - but as I said earlier, welcome to life LOL.
I think all of us who have studied in the martial arts for years have had to find a balance between work, play, training, and social lives. That balancing act is always being adjusted, and tweaked, and occassionally some things come along that throw it out of balance for a while. You just have to try to accept what you can't change, and work with what you can until you achieve a suitable balance again.
Remember also, you can always return to training when you have more time available on your schedule, and certainly, you can always continue to study and learn once you leave school, but the decisions you make in school with regard to studying and your future course will have a significant impact on your future - and that really should take the top priority compared to martial arts trianing I think.
Good luck to you (oh, and lay off the Red Bull - much better to get good calories than these false energy calories in your body lol )

Reply:i know exactly what you mean. this is my schedule. I go to Cesar Gracie academy , but I go at 5:30 and leave at 9:00 its usually 2 hrs , BJJ and wrestling , then 2 hrs muay thai , running. and then I go to college 4 days a week. and at night from 4 -10pm , and study till 2 in the morning. oh and I also work 3 days a week at blockbuster 8-4 on days I don't have school , and i head right to my martial arts classes after wards. Its all about tweaking your schedule. and I dont even find myself that busy I still have time for my friends on weekends , and spare time to study. but there are many factors in this , how old are u , do you live on your own , do you have kids , ect. I admit its very very hard but its possible.
Reply:When you figure it out, let us all know :)
My schedule:
M-F work from 3-11am
M/W sleep from 12-2:30pm
T/Th - no nap until 1:30, teach class at 12:30
M-Th - teach afterschool program 4:15-5pm
M/W - teach even classes 5:30-8pm
Sleep until 2am the next day
(All this with a wife and 20-month old girl at home)
Reply:Time management is key. Make a chart time on one side / days of the week on the other. Fill it out with what absolutly has to be done. School, eating, sleeping, training. Find where there holes, and fill the holes with study time. Then no matter what when it is time to study....study.
