How much does martial arts training cost?

Specifically for a Tae Kwon Do school. How much is the tuition? Also, how much is the equipment?

How much does martial arts training cost?
The classes vary from class to class or even discipline to discipline, especially if they are part of a club or organization which most of the fees go to the head of the organization and their top "administrative" people.

the main thing you gotta watch out for is contracts that rope you in for 6 months or more, because those're usually good indications thjat the school will not really teach you the true mechanics of Martial Arts, but rather be a "belt factory" and try to sell you your belts instead of actually earning them by training.

as far as training gear goes, uniforms vary by the "weight" meaning how heavy the material is: a lightweight (4oz fabric material) is prob'ly about $30.00 depending on the website (like awma.com or centuryma.com) and they''l usually increase by $5.00 to $10.00 increments by the weight usually 6oz, 8oz, 10oz, and often heaviest 12oz or 14oz (again depending on the wbsite), but you can usually get a uniform through the school from the beginning, that'll prob'ly have the schools logos and patches emboridered on it already.

Sparring gear also will be needed by the time your as early as a yellow or orange belt, but you can often figure on an average of about $150.00 (or a little more) for a full set of gear: head gear, mouth piece to protect your jaw, hand protection, shin and foot protection, and a chest guard if the school allows it, and you'll also want an athletic protecter (cup) for protecting your groin because there's nothin worse than a stray kick to the groin.
Reply:It will varry on the school.... but you are looking at $99-120/ Month for TKD. Sparring gear if they allow you to buy on your own can be pieced together for around $110 but if you buy it through them its going to be around $160
Reply:Well I'm from Melbourne Australia (so I don't know if its help full). But I pay $80 a month and the gear cost me around $300 to $400 Australian dollars.
Reply:Tuition costs vary by school, location and size. Most equipment can be found online or bought directly from your school. Many teachers get their students discounts on training materials.

You can check out online vendors like Asian World (www.awma.com), Century (www.centuryfitness.com) and Tiger Claw (www.tigerclaw.com) for specific equipment prices.
Reply:Prices vary with location. Get a few quotes. Equipment depends on the sparring style. If it is non contact sparring, all you need is a uniform, maybe patches %26amp; a protective cup. Less than $60.

If it is full contact, you will need all the pads. They cost more. Check prices on line at century, AWMA etc.
Reply:I LOVE APPLES :)

Probably around 50-100$ a month (us)
Reply:It really depends where in the world you are. Over here in the UK, the majority of MA's classes are anywhere from £3.50 - £5 per session. A lightweight gi is approx £20. Insurance per year is approx anywhere from £15.00 to £30. Grading are anywhere from £15 - £30, higher when you get towards black belt then approx £70-£100 for the black belt grading. Additional courses can vary, this can be anywhere from £5 - £75 (this includes an extra 1 hour class in something different to a weekend session).

Please be aware that these are approx costs and it does vary club to club, association to association. Even thought there are 2 main TKD associations, there are break-away clubs.

Hope this helps.
