Why dont people ever Kick or use some skill when street fighting?

I'm 16 years old, In high school. I think really Highly of Self Defense and Martial Arts in general. In High school I see fighting nearly everyday. Most of the time, its just random punching, sometimes its some-what boxing. Why don't people ever use Kicks? or Elbows? Or Knees? I really think my kicking skills are amazing and I could probably break ribs with one kick. I can kick a basket ball like FEETS into the air (50?) So why are people so Hard assed and Think punching is everything?

Why dont people ever Kick or use some skill when street fighting?
The fear makes them panic and they just start throwing whatever comes out naturally. Kicks just are not a natural defense, and it takes years to make it a natural reflex. I've had so many guys with years of assorted arts come in to the gym and talk about how good they are. Most have never sparred at full speed or taken a real strike at 100%. The second they eat that first real strike they panic and forget everything they have learned. It takes months of full contact sparring for them to relax and use their skills. This is something the bjj guy and the "mma" guy that commented above should realize. One thinks he can end it with one punch, and the other thinks he's going to break someones knee. In reality after that one hitter quiter does not work for the "mma" guy and the bjj guy can't set up the knee bar to break the knee their suddenly in a panic because they have never really fought and they start throwing wild punches because they do not know what to do.
Reply:I'm a MMA and I never had to kick. One hit and they were out
Reply:Because they don't know how to fight and/or never taken Karate. 3 more months until my 2nd degree black belt.
Reply:People tend to see kicking as fighting dirty
Reply:My guess is you may benefit from joining a good class. Now bear in mind that the best fights are the ones that are never fought. Mind over matter ;-)
Reply:Its because they don't know what they are doing. Some people only kick and others only punch. Its because they don't know how to fight properly. 3 grades from black belt in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). And its simply down to the fact they have no technique. They just lash out.
Reply:Being an aggressive jerk a lot of times isn't the right frame of mind to learn and study organized fighting (Kung Fu, Karate, etc.). I'm glad you are studing something that will help mental and physical health. To many computer games being played. But, understand the concept of OVERKILL. You school buddies fighting don't really need to kick, elbow, or knee to make a point. Restraint is a LARGE part of martial arts. Study that part also.
Reply:there are a few different reasons. One is that they just do not train themselvs to. Another would be that it is still seen as fighting dirty by a lot of people. yet another reason would be that the people who have taken some lessons have never been able to make the transition from a class room invironment to the street situaiton. There is a big difference between the nice safe class where you have lots of pads and an instructor waiting to stop the fight and the real deal in the streets where there may or may not be some one to stop the fight or come to your aid if things are not going your way. Not to mention the fact that the rules are not the same. Meaning that there are no rules in the street. Then of course there is the fact that most people with any real skill do not go around getting into fights just to prove a point or look like a tuff guy. so these are a few of the reasons you will not see a lot of real skill in most street fights.
Reply:Classic Martial Arts works better against Classic Martial Arts. You'll see a great example of the down falls in the earlier UFC(s). I would tell you worry about being a warrior and a gentlemen..forget about beating up HS Kids. My Sensei always thought me that "people shouldn't fear a BlackBelt, they should feel safer he is present."
Reply:Their untrained and dont think about it. Besides punches are often more versatile and easier to land whereas a good kick will hurt but anything above the waist is generally caught fairly easy
Reply:i to see many fights. Its because they don't know how to properly use a kick or elbow but i do sometimes se knees. most kids want to end the fight fast and the fastest strike is a punch
Reply:Because kicking above the thigh is pretty risky. Kicking with boots and jeans, especially those lame tight popular ones today, is different from kicking in a loose light uniform barefoot.

But you should use knees elbows and low kicks though. Muay Thai is so much more deadly than American kickboxing b/c of knees and elbows
Reply:Im a gracie fighter , And i never kick either , you pull that wing chung kung fu fighting crap with me , im gunna shoot in , put you on the ground and break your knee.

street fighting dont gotta look like ballet like you see in the movies , its not pretty , it usually ends up with 2 guys wrestling on the ground with each other , punching each other in the face , till one guy looses.
Reply:hi i take martail arts and i know how u feel tell people this that feet are the advantage of all fights and strongest limb in the body tell them this that u stand and walk on your feet not hands try hand standing for 5 minuets youl crumble like a bug on kid pissed me off in this very conversation i heeled kicked him in the soler plexises and the fight lasted 2 seconds as i winded him out let me tell you that no one the same conversation about kicking is for girls good luck
Reply:Skilled fighters are wiser than to street fight, you lose all your rights in any corner of the sport. And the law screws ya too !
Reply:kicks are slower and you need balance. Punching is faster and humans feel more natural fighting back with the hands. Always legs are used in keeping the body standing, that's how a body will naturally interpret the use of legs. I mean, your arms have the ability to lock and swing, because it is not busy holding weight all the time.
Reply:I kick 'em dude!! That's my fav move.... And punch on their nose will slow our opponent coz their nose got broke dude.
Reply:Personally me, being a street fighter will tell you straight up that a person kicking looks like a ***** and people clown and like to say you can't fight. Kicks look much more awkward than punches. They can do more damage than a punch, but people don't like to look stupid even if it is for defending yourself. But i bet all street fighters will kick in order to save their life. Plus kicks are an easy way to get dropped, once one foot leaves the ground you've got half your balance, even for skilled fast kickers this is true.
Reply:Sometimes just standing toe to toe and using fists / elbows is most effective.
