Ideas? Im running a non combat martial arts class for high school girls ,I need some more ideas.?
please also include stuff we can use in a real life threatening situation and how to use surroundings to an advantage, i think you could include these into your flyers good luck with the classes I know its the best thing i did for myself even though I hope i never have to use it. you could also include discipline, pride and self satisfaction, strength, flexibility, self belief, i could go on and on
Reply:Be careful, the government may think your a terrorist training camp.
Reply:jello training is the only way
Reply:How are they developing self confidence if they are not atempting to overcome something, like a physical attack? What are they self confident in? Sounds like you are teaching more of a artistic impression of Buddism. I would think they would be aquiring stress release techniques, balance, and spiritual growth.
Reply:I teach a self defense class for "Safe House," which is a place for battered woman to go. In my classes, I emphesise that you never know what an attacker has in mind for you, or if you do, you never know what will happen just through pure dumb luck. The format I teach, is from the start of an attack to the end. I teach that at every momment of an attack, there is always something that you can do, everything from stand up stricks, to grappling and throws, to ground defense and fighting, to ultamatly getting away from the attacker, screaming for help the whole time. It is difficult coming from a buddhist point of view, because a true buddhist would not risk injuring there attacker by defending themself. Instead, they would depend on the Universe to exact justice in the next life. You might try emphisising the self-defense factor of the kung-fu with the self discipline and sence of health and well being, along with using the confidence that is learned to find a spiritual center. Tough question, good luck
Reply:What has martial arts training done for you as a woman? Make a list and put it into bullet points on your flyer. I'm assuming you're a woman. Just don't require the girls to change their religious beliefs.
Reply:Loose the philosophy base on your flyer's most people have a stigma about a martial artist teaching them philosophy. They think you will try to convert them to Buddhism or try to turn them from what ever religion they already believe in.I've had many parents ask me if I teach any religion or spiritual aspects of martial arts.

I'm not to familiar with Kung Fu but I teach Hapkido. Most of what I teach in my women's self defense classes is Awareness of your surroundings.example get your keys out of your purse BEFORE you get out of the store.Do a visual scan of the area around the vehicle. If you feel unsure go back inside and ask someone to follow you out to the vehicle.

Keep your techniques simple. Most of the women won't use any of the things you teach them or won't remember them a few days after the class. Not meaning to sound mean but stating the truth.
Reply:Literally speaking, "non-combat" and "martial" are contradictory. With that said, emphasize focusing on one's surrounding with peripheral vision. Thus, see everything, but see nothing (or don't focus on any one thing). Finally...not to fall into a stupor or daze nor [even] realize you've attained this level of awareness.
