What Is A Martial Art Good For?

I see so many now only create predators, and then push them into your face. Is this the Modern day purpose of martial arts.

Predator School?

What Is A Martial Art Good For?
Martial Arts are good for a great many things. In olden times a teacher only accepted students that were introduced properly to him/her or were family. Nowadays, most schools will aceept anyone that has the money to pay for classes. However it's the really good schools and teachers that watch their students and can determine whether or not a person is taking to the Martial Way properly or if they are simply learning to become a predator.

Martial Arts are great for: physical fitness, discipline, stamina, overall health, dexterity, strength, introduction to other cultures %26amp; languages, mental acuity, hand-eye coordination, self-esteem, confidence and I'm sure that there are others.

Reply:Martial arts do not create predators any more than the internet created predators. Bad people will do bad things no matter what. There are many, many boxers who admit that if they weren't professional fighters they would be in jail. Boxing didn't make them bad, it actually kept them from being bad.

It would be nice if your question contained specifics instead of broad, sweeping generalities. I am not a predator.
Reply:it's great exercise, and most schools teach disipline as part of the art. it is also a great way to learn self defense. while some people do take what they learn and turn it to violence, a vast majority don't do that and use it for recreational use, or self defense.
Reply:being physically fit and doing exercise has the primary reason of not getting injured in the long run and to maintain a healthy body.. so i guess that would be the main purpose of martial arts today
Reply:Some people use their skills in competition, in bodog or ufc fighting, but that is just exhibition.

The original idea of martial arts is self defense. My son is just 5 and has been in Tae Kwon Do for a year. He's a yellow stripe and the purpose is to build confidence, have the ability to defend yourself and learn discipline.

Martial arts are a great form of excercise, they built self confidence and many teach methods of relaxation and meditation.

I think you need to look more into martial arts.

Reply:Do you want your kid to be soft or lack mental/physical strength? 2 not be disciplined? 2 have no spirituality other than sitting in a stuffy church two hours a week? Martial arts has great potential for the person who embraces it in its totallity, I mean all the aspects, not just the physical.
